Cairo absolutely blew me away
The pyramids at Giza are something else entirely. No photo prepares you for seeing them up close. The city is loud, busy, and full of energy - and I loved every bit of it. Street food near Khan el-Khalili is a must.
A city that stays with you
Cairo is chaotic in the best way. The Egyptian Museum alone is worth the trip - you could spend a full day in there and still not see everything. Koshari from a local spot is cheap, filling, and genuinely delicious. Totally different from anything back home.
History everywhere you look
Walking through Islamic Cairo felt like stepping back in time. The mosques, the narrow lanes, the old architecture - it is all just right there in front of you. Nothing feels fake or staged. The call to prayer echoing across the city is something I will not forget.
So much more than the pyramids
Everyone goes for the pyramids but Cairo itself deserves way more credit. Khan el-Khalili bazaar is overwhelming in a fun way - the colors, the noise, the haggling. Picked up some amazing spices and hand-painted ceramics. Food was cheap and so good.
Giza from the camel's back - unforgettable
Rode a camel around the Giza plateau and got views that genuinely made me stop and stare. The scale of the pyramids is hard to process in person. Cairo itself is a massive, sprawling city but somehow easy to navigate once you get the hang of it. Loved it.
Egypt delivered on every level
The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square is packed with treasures - Tutankhamun's golden mask is worth the visit alone. Locals were welcoming and happy to point you in the right direction. Prices for food and transport are very reasonable. Cairo surprised me in all the right ways.
